Job Search Database Information
What is it?
Job Search Database is a FileMaker Pro 5.5 and 6 database file to assist with
job hunting.
Is this a piece of software?
No. This is a FileMaker Pro 5.5 or 6 database document. It requires
FileMaker Pro 5.5 or 6. It may run on FileMaker Pro 5, but I have not tested
it on version 5, so use at your own risk. I have had some reports from folks
using 1.2.1 that it worked on version 5. I didn't use any 6 specific modifications,
so this version should work in 5 as well.
Although it is not software, it provides a great deal of functionality that is very similar to a piece of software. However, the real power is in the FileMaker Pro software you need to have to run this document.
I don't understand. It's just a document?
Yes, exactly, it's just a document. If you don't understand, then this may not
be for you. The best way to think of it is as a template, like a blank but preformatted
MS Word document that you fill in. Nevertheless, if you are not very familiar
with how to create new records and fill in the data then you might be over your
head. (Most of you that own and use FileMaker Pro will be just fine.)
Where can I get FileMaker Pro?
You can purchase it directly from FileMaker: http://store.filemaker.com/.
At $299.00 for a single user desktop version, it isn't cheap. However, it's
great cross-platform database software. If you are part of an educational institution,
you can get it for $149.00 from the Apple
Education Store.
How much is it?
Free. Free. Free. If you're looking for a job, then it ain't like you got money
to send me.
Free? What's the catch?
No catch. If you want to send me something, like a postcard, then email me at
wessonj @ jpj dot net and I'll give you
my real-world address.
Now, look, if you just feel some kind of need to send me money for this thing, I'm not stopping you, but you should be aware that it's a donation. I don't really offer "support" other than my own constant tweaking the database. I guess that's the catch, then: no support. If you download it and use it, then you do it at your own risk. It's AS IS, so if you download it and it alerts the aliens to your presence or causes any other nasty things to happen, then that's the risk you take.
I don't know about this. Free? Could alert the aliens
to my presence on the planet? Can I at least get a look at it first?
Sure! Take a look at these screenshots. Click on the thumbnails to get the screenshot

Wait a second, what's all this version 1.3 stuff?
There were earlier versions?
Indeed there were. I had 1.2 which was pretty much the same as 1.2.1.
Now I have 1.3, which has some significant advantages over 1.2 and 1.2.1 in that it has some better fields in it that didn't seem relevant to me when I was looking for a job (like that whole city and state thing).

Download Information
Ok, I am convinced that this if for me. I have FileMaker
Pro for my PC or Mac. I am looking for a job. I understand databases. I'm totally
disorganized and desperately need something to help me keep track of my job
hunt. And yes, I understand you don't offer support for this thing but will
still take and spend my money if I send it. (Although you're more likely to
get a postcard than my money.) Where is it? GIMME!
Just click on the big ol' FileMaker Pro icon below to download the zipped file.
Aladdin Expander for Windows and StuffIt Expander for Macintosh should decompress
the file without any problems.
